Youth Food & Farm Initiatives
About twenty five years ago, a handful of leaders like me across the country created Rooted In Community (RIC), a national grassroots network that empowers young people to lead food justice and community health work through urban/rural agriculture, community gardening, and land/food systems activism.
We organized annual national youth summits, youth leadership trainings, and peer education workshops where youth activists learn advocacy, community organizing, and sustainable agriculture skills. Nothing was as satisfying and watching those young people lead. We are here to help you create the next generation of climate, food, and land justice leaders.
Too often those working with youth during out of school time don't have the professional support, income, or materials they need to make a difference. Yet, research shows that youth can thrive in afterschool environments and they make a huge difference in shaping the life outcomes for the majority of youth who need more supportive networks than their families or friends can provide. We believe strongly that youth programs and youth professionals deserve high quality services.
